Found on Myspace

As the value of the written word continues to decline in favor of easily consumable images/video, those of us who cherish words will find more and more soul-crushing disappointment humor in the failure of people to construct legible thoughts with words.

Anyone remember Myspace? Me neither. But it turns out it still exists and is populated with neanderthals. Here is a "3 year plan" that I found on some guy's "blog". You're welcome.

So I was talkin with some friends the other day about our 3 year plans and some goals we wanted to accomplish and heres some things that i can remember wanting.
This year: -Finish paying off my truck.  -Chop my 75' Harley, -Buy a new dirtbike, -manage not to kill anyone that im in charge of on my helicopter crew, Spend some quality time with my pops, -Pay off credit cards, -dont have a baby, -Complete Squad Leader Academy in Sacramento, -travel to Brazil.
Next Year: - Move to Ventura or San Diego and find a squad leader position on a hotshot crew, - Fix up my 47' Harley, -Save a bunch of money to buy house, -finish college and get my fire degree, -finally finish my EMT class, Complete Engine Academy, -travel to China, -dont have a baby.
Year Three: -Get job with Cal Fire or LA County Fire( unless my current dept. changes its ways), -Save money for house, -Go to Paramedic School, -Buy a Boat, -Find a baby mama, -have a baby, -buy a house near beach.
thats alot of stuff but if i can accomplish most of these goals and keep out of trouble i should be sittin pretty good.

Sittin' pretty bro.

So then...

I look through the images that I take and then somehow, from somewhere, decide which words to put with them. The images inspire words, invoke memories and emotions in the viewer. But as the author, I have the unique ability to apply my own thoughts, words, memories and impressions to the image which then "trump", if you will, the viewers own ideas about the picture. So whatever you thought the purpose or the "point" of the image was before: that's now gone because I've imposed my own words on the picture.[gallery link="file"]

Night inspiration

I've been meaning to practice using the flash on my camera. I ran around last night in the dark and snapped a couple pictures of my yard. This is what happened.[gallery link="file"]

Masculinity

Been thinking about masculinity and how it is expressed in the modern world and how it may have been expressed before modern conveniences. Do technological advancements negate the necessity of masculinity? Have we substituted new rituals and expressions of masculinity in the place of older, more vicious and perhaps savage ones? Are these new ones as effective in nurturing the spirit of masculinity?

On an unrelated note, I'm going to be getting a camera soon to add pictures of my adventures. When that happens you won't have to just look at pictures that I've added words to.

Words and Pictures

As I've been developing the theme and character of this blog I've been trying to incorporate both images and words together. In my previous blog, all I did was just write words with pictures (occasionally) to illustrate the words. Here I'm trying to merge the two together in order to meet the demands of the modern reader. As we scan through blogs we see lots of words and pictures. Attempting to reach out of that mass of information is very difficult.

Here are some designs I've been working on

I don't really know how my inspiration works. It's different with words than it is with the images I create. I should be more conscious of what moves me to write versus what moves me to make pictures.  I posted a comparison of an image I saw and then modified/copied. Sometimes that's how it works: I see something and I want to copy it as an exercise in design. What inspires you? Are there routines, places, foods, beverages, music, movies, images you use to move you to create?[gallery orderby="rand"]
